Polar Team Wins Extreme Race to North Pole
Neways Polar
Team won this years Wedgewood Blue Ice Trophy as overall winners
of Polar Race 2005. Team members Justin Packshaw, an avid outdoorsman
and adventurer, and Christina Franco, an outdoor photographer
and trekking guide, took a commanding 24 hour lead early on in
the race and held on to win by 5 ½ hours.
The race began
on April 9 in Resolute Bay, Canada, on the south coast of Cornwallis
Island in the northern province of Nunavut, Canada, and ended
May 2 at the magnetic North Pole. Contestants traveled some 350
miles, by ski or foot, across some of the most desolate terrain
in the world to reach the finish line. Team members endured extreme
weather conditions, polar bears and personal illness. Because
of these factors race officials refer to the race as “Probably
the world’s toughest race.” Even with these obstacles,
the team’s courage and endurance helped them to take home
the trophy.
“We
are delighted at the efforts and courage of Neways Polar Team,”
said Jane Webster, managing director of Neways’ UK operations.
“Justin and Christina are excellent examples of modern day
explorers who are setting goals and achieving them.”
Through its
UK and German offices, Neways chose to be the team sponsor for
Packshaw, London, UK, and Franco, Rome, Italy, and supplied the
team with Neways’ powerful nutritional products. Neways
knew that its products would hold up to these extreme conditions
because of their use in a 2000 expedition to the top of Mount
Everest.
The team used
Neways’ Maximol
Solutions, Hawaiian
Noni, Revenol,
Cascading Revenol,
EFA Recovery
Plus and Ming
Gold to help with energy, circulation, stamina
and the recovery process. They
also used Alleviate to help with sore legs and
recovery.
