It is a normal constituent of the body's own glycosaminoglycans (gags). Gags form part of the ground substance of connective tissue, which is found throughout the body.

Over many years the use of Glucosamine Sulphate in the treatment or prevention of osteoarthritis has been hypothesized and studied. Results of these studies which, in many instances showed positive effects, have resulted in more clinicians showing interest and conducting more exhaustive studies.
